James S. Wolsey is the proprietor of the Dublin firm.
Mr. Wolsey advises clients in a wide range of industries on the development, acquisition and sale of intellectual property; the licensing of rights and brand protection. Mr. Wolsey negotiates commercial agreements for companies in the music, film, software, publishing and games industries and acts for artists, writers and agents. He also advises on new media and the electronic dissemination of works. His practice includes undertaking due diligence and evaluating intellectual property rights in mergers and acquisitions.
Mr. Wolsey represented the record industry’s international trade association, IFPI, for 10 years, where he was Director of International Anti-Piracy Operations and responsible for overseeing the record industry’s worldwide anti-piracy operations and bringing test cases in a number of countries against copyright infringers.
Mr. Wolsey has acted in cases involving public performance and broadcasting rights before the copyright tribunals in the United Kingdom and Hong Kong and in the Supreme Court in Ireland. He has made complaints to the Commission of the European Union in respect of abuses of Articles 85 and 86 of the Treaty of Rome and the prohibition of quantitative restrictions in the market.
Mr. Wolsey has significant experience in dealing with inter governmental organizations such as the WIPO, UNESCO and the WTO and with non governmental organizations such as IFPI, BIEM, the MPAA and CISAC.
